What are the race batteries?

Lead Acid Battery

Lead-acid batteries have matured over time in both production and recycling. Lead-acid batteries are favored in a variety of industries due to their low cost, but the ground energy density and maintenance required by lead-acid batteries have fallen out of step with the times, and they are not capable of delivering the high power and longevity that is needed in the racing industry.
Of course, the other AMG battery is similar to the lead-acid battery in that it has a wider life span than the strong-acid battery and is more flexible in its installation. However, it also has the same drawbacks as lead acid batteries.

Lithium-ion Battery

Lithium-ion batteries beat lead-acid and AMG batteries in terms of weight and energy density. The weight can be reduced by 2/3 and the power remains the same. The cycle life of lithium-ion batteries (amount of charging and discharging) reaches 5,000 times, and the batteries are more resistant to deep discharging than lead-acid batteries. The only drawback is that the cost is higher than lead-acid batteries. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries (LiFePO4 batteries) have become more widely used in racing and are the safest lithium-ion technology available.

How do I know the starting power of a race engine?

Generally, engines need 800-1000 starting power, if your engine is higher displacement then it needs higher starting power, if your engine is more powerful then it needs more current to drive the engine. Lithium batteries have the irreplaceable advantage of lead-acid batteries in the high-magnification field, which can start the engine faster. Lithium batteries are higher than lead-acid batteries in terms of energy density, volume, output current, and starting power, which makes them better to be used as engine starting batteries. Most customers are accustomed to using Cold Cranking Current (CCA) as a measure of battery “strength”. However, CCA is a measure of a battery’s ability to start at -17 degrees Celsius for 30 seconds.

Selecting capacity according to power

Once you know the starting power of a racing car, you need to choose the capacity of the battery according to your needs, but in this case, you need to decide according to your situation, because the larger the capacity of the battery, the larger the size, compared to lead-acid batteries, lithium batteries are 70% smaller than lead-acid batteries with the same capacity. For example, the 24V 50ah battery of a lead-acid battery can only discharge 30Ah, while a lithium battery of the same capacity can discharge up to 45Ah, from the data embodiment, a lithium battery is the ideal choice for your racing.
Deep cycle batteries offer a deeper pull than traditional lead acid/AGM, but this pull still reduces the number of life cycles. Lithium batteries can be close to zero without affecting cycle life.

Safe and long life

Lithium batteries do require a specialized charger to charge. Most automotive alternators can charge your lithium battery. One of the most important functions of a BMS is to protect the battery. Lithium batteries are made up of multiple cells that need to be balanced. If the cells don’t match, the usable capacity of the entire battery will be reduced, so cell balancing is critical to the longevity of a Li-ion battery.
